Check Six!
The 90 cents newspaper got its war machines mixed up (again). This time confusing Malaysia's MiG-29N Fulcrum from the Smokey Bandits with Singapore's F-15SG Strike Eagle. To be sure, both look kinda the same to laypersons: both have one big wing, two tail fins, are painted grey and make lotsa noise. But one would have hoped for better QC (quality control) by Singapore's paper of record. Hopefully, air force warfighters whose job is to smoke the bandits don't make the same mistake in a hot war. As Malaysians and Singaporeans would say in the local slang: Alamak! (Image scanned by Who from the Milnuts spotter group)
Kinda the same, but it's quite apparent when compared with this other shot. http://www.straitstimes.com/STI/STIMEDIA/image/20120215/airshow05.jpg "At the static display area, visitors to the airshow can view the cockpits of planes such as the F-15SG fighter, seen here from the rear. -- ST PHOTO: CAROLINE CHIA"
ReplyDeleteLazy sloppy reporting, probably a far cry from your days reporting on defence matters. The MiG-29 looks nothing like the F-15 from all angles and more like an F/A-18 which the RMAF also use.
ReplyDeleteI believe the assault rifle shown below is also mislabeled as an ST Engg. production. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the XM-8 that was designed by the US Army, but never fully realised.
ReplyDelete@Anon @ 09:58PM: No, that is not an XM-8, in fact it's not even a functioning prototype but rather a concept mockup, according to the STK engineer I spoke to on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteThese are people who still use the term "battleship".
ReplyDeleteI believe even if someone gets the word, turnover is so high that it doesn't stay in that organisation for long.
